Electric Field On The Equatorial Of The Dipole Class 12 Physics Chapter 1 Electric Charges and Fields Notes
#6. Electric Field On The Equatorial Of The Dipole

The direction of dipole moment (P) is from -q to +q and resultant electric field is in direction opposite to the electric dipole moment so negative sign is used (-p) to indicate the direction.
In this case we determine the electric field at a point P which is located on the perpendicular bisector of the line joining two charges. Let the distance of point P from this line be r.
Equation of electric field
E.F due to +q charge at point P
E.F due to -q charge at point P
Hence the direction of electric field due to +q charge and -q charge is different, it can be resolved into vertical and horizontal components.
